Chios
After I graduated from college, I worked & saved all I could to go to one of the farthest Greek islands, Chios, a hotspot for refugees migrating across the channel from Turkey all the way from the Middle East to Eastern Africa. Here, we volunteer supplying emergency aid & services to these asylum seekers as they reside in a refugee camp, Vial, hoping for approval into Europe. Career refugee aid workers, a working mother, students on school leave, and individuals looking for a purpose— all team members who came and went during my time on the island— I wanted to make portraits the most highly selfless, dedicated, impassioned group of individuals I have yet to encounter. The side of unpaid aid workers is often unheard, but I hope to show the those we don’t see who are fighting quite literally around the clock to achieve fair migration practices across the world.
